The watering trough originated in 1902, the early 20th century! It stands in its original location at the center of Main Street where it intersects with Central Street and Alpine Court. It serves as a welcome to all who visit Sunapee Harbor ! Kind of like The Statue of Liberty in New York!
It was the watering hole for the many horses housed at The Livery down the street. We are pleased to have this iconic treasure today, which is adorned by our flower garden. We have a fun team of 3 gardeners – they are always ready and willing to help at a moment’s notice!
The garden team members alternate taking care of our garden weekly. We plant flowers in mid-May and tend the garden through Columbus Day. It is a pleasure to receive the many many compliments of those passing by! Thank you for the affirmation!
In November, after pulling the garden, we adorn the trough with beautiful winter evergreens, white branches and bright red bows to begin the Christmas season. It gets the holiday spirit underway and keeps those “winter blues” away!
This year we have planted white, yellow and violaceous Calibrachoa, Argyranthemum (grandaisy) and Diochondra (cascading green) which cascades down the granite wall in front of the trough! Stunning!
Be sure to stop by the watering trough this summer to enjoy the flowers and say hello. We are a very friendly team!!!!!
