The Betty Reid Garden was started in the spring of 2023 at the Abbott Library in order to commemorate Betty’s contributions to the Sunapee Gardeners and her love of the Abbott Library. Donations had been made, at the request of the Reid/Holdman family, to the Sunapee Gardeners upon her death in January 2023. Daffodil bulbs were purchased and planted at the library.
It was possible to buy more plants through the donated funds and the library director offered a small area to start a garden. Pam McGraw and Donna Holdman (Betty’s daughter) planted what they could and maintained the garden with the volunteer help of a few of Betty’s friends who were also Sunapee Gardeners. Many library patrons have mentioned that they enjoy the garden on their way into the library. Betty’s family and friends are pleased to have a place that honors her at one of her favorite places in Sunapee. The plaque reads: Remembering Betty Reid for her love of gardens, libraries, and lasting friendships.
